The history of SBGK dates back to 1896, when the legal predecessor, the first Patent Office in Hungary was founded. In 1969, patent attorneys together with prominent Hungarian attorneys-at-law established the Patent and Law Office for International Affairs, which had later become SBGK Patent and Law Offices.

Whilst the Patent Office has traditionally been one of the leading intellectual property offices in Hungary, the Law Office has also developed itself to become one of the most highly rated law firms in the country.
