The firm’s major area of practise is maritime law by providing a full range of legal services to the maritime industry, namely but not exclusively, related to: judicial litigation; arbitration; arrest of vessels or any other maritime injunctions over cargo or bunkers; enforcement of claims and labour, criminal and administrative offences proceedings related to the maritime activity. Andrade Dias & Associados is also strongly involved in the settlement of any type of disputes outside court, in the negotiation of maritime contracts and in client’s representation before the Portuguese Authorities.
The firm advocates in cases connected with protection and indemnity (P&I Clubs); marine insurance; limitation of liability; collisions and all type of navigation accidents or incidents; salvage; pollution; wreck removal; ship’s sale and purchase; ship’s registration; ship’s mortgages; charter-parties; carriage of goods by sea; general average; multimodal transport; freight forwarders; ship’s agency; harbour and customs law; maritime labour law; maritime criminal law; non judicial detention of vessels at Portuguese harbours; port state control and all maritime administrative proceedings related to the maritime safety.

Commercial litigation, arbitration and disputes
The firm has considerable experience in these areas, particularly in areas connected with agency or distribution contracts disputes, debt recovery, insolvency and all maritime law related disputes.

Air, Road & Rail
The firm has started to deal with aviation matters by advising on wet and dry leases of aircrafts. It has a strong and well experimented practice area on CMR claims, not without disregarding the rail aspect of transport law.

Commercial and corporate law
The corporate practice deals with all corporate law including company formations and reorganisations, M&A, insolvency and banking.

International trade
With a typical shipping angle of the area, the firm advises on letters of credit, on all aspects related to shipping documents and in international sale and purchase of goods.

Insurance and reinsurance
The firm advises on all aspects of insurance and reinsurance, on contentious and non contentious matters.

Accidents and personal injury claims
The firm has extensive experience in dealing with accidents and personal injury claims by representing both foreign and national citizens in the Portuguese jurisdiction.
