SDA works very closely with various governmental authorities including the Registrar of Newspapers for India, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (licensor) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and advises them on regulatory and legal issues arising out of emerging technologies and changes in the licensing regime.

SDA advises and assists new entrants in their legal and business structuring, keeping in view the foreign investment and licensing regulations including advising on tax efficient structures. SDA advises clients in negotiating joint ventures, mergers & acquisitions, business transfer and finalizing related agreements. SDA advises and assists clients’ in obtaining foreign investment and other regulatory approvals from various governmental authorities.

SDA advises clients on legal and regulatory issues arising in broadcasting and media sector including print media and assists them in obtaining licenses, registrations and various approvals from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting or Registrar of Newspapers for India.

SDA has assisted and advised a number of clients in acquiring telecommunication licenses in India. SDA advises and assists clients on issues and agreements relating to outsourcing. SDA actively advises clients on issues relating to Information Technology Act including but not limited to phishing, pharming, hacking, data theft and data protection, spamming, pornography, liability of service provider etc. SDA advises clients on various provisions of the Information Technology Act including offences/ violations committed thereunder.

SDA advises and represents clients before various courts and other (quasi) judicial forums and tribunals including the ones especially established under the Information Technology Act and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India Act such as Telecom Dispute Settlement & Appellate Tribunal. SDA has capabilities to assist and advice clients on dispute resolution process as adopted under WIPO for domain name disputes.
