Latin Lawyer's 2nd Annual M&A Conference

Organiser: Latin Lawyer

Tuesday, 6th December 2011
Sao Paulo, Brazil

Global M&A totaled US$608 billion in the first quarter of 2011 — a 32.7% jump over the same period last year. US-based CEOs are more likely to make cross-border acquisitions, and to see Latin America as a real opportunity, than they have for years - and local companies meanwhile are taking advantage of great home growth to expand abroad. However, global economic uncertainty could put this growth at risk.

Meanwhile, in the legal and regulatory sphere, life is getting more complex for M&A lawyers in Latin America. US-style norms are increasingly used, while their relevance in the region perhaps means they have inflitrated too far. Antitrust regulation is getting tighter, while increasing shareholder activism is opening the threat of broad hostile takeovers for arguably the first time. Keeping up to date with trends and developments has never been more important.

Within this context, Latin Lawyer is offering its second annual M&A Conference, to be held in São Paulo. Last year leading lawyers, GCs, regulators and business people came together to pinpoint the trends for 2011, and this year's version will build on that success.
