In 2008, amidst the global financial market meltdown, credit market freeze and economic slowdown, global capital markets saw sharply lower activity compared to 2007. According to Thomson Reuters, global stock and bond issuances declined 38 per cent from approximately US$7.6 trillion in 2007 to US$4.7 trillion in 2008.
