The Kingdom of Bahrain enacted Legislative Decree No. 30 on 2 July 2009. In doing so, Bahrain became the first country to create the equivalent of a free trade zone for arbitration. The new Legislative Decree gives parties the option of holding an international arbitration proceeding in Bahrain without the need to be concerned, unless the award is also to be enforced in Bahrain, that the courts of Bahrain will interfere with or set aside the award of the arbitrators. The result is the creation of what this article will call the Bahrain ‘Free Arbitration Zone’.
