Michael Han is a partner in the Beijing office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Prior to joining the firm, he worked with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (now the Ministry of Commerce), the authority which is currently responsible for foreign investment approval and merger review in China.

Michael’s practice focuses on the competition and regulatory aspects of China-related direct foreign investment and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

Michael spent a year and a half with the firm’s US antitrust practice group in the Washington DC office before he was relocated to the Beijing office in November 2007. He has extensive experience advising multinational companies on the antitrust aspects of their cross-border M&A transactions as well as counselling them on the antitrust risks of their business behaviour.

Michael is ranked in band 1 of international competition lawyers in China by Chambers Asia Leading Lawyers for Business Guide in 2010 and 2011. He obtained an LLM degree from Harvard Law School and a PhD in law from Wuhan University Law School. Michael is a native PRC national and is fluent in spoken and written English. He is admitted to practise in the State of New York and in China.
