Doug Harrison is a partner in the Litigation Group of Stikeman Elliott in Toronto. His practice is focused primarily in the areas of general corporate-commercial litigation and arbitration, environmental litigation, product liability, defamation and insolvency. He has extensive advocacy experience having appeared before all levels of court in Ontario (including the Commercial Court), the Federal Court (Trial Division), and various administrative tribunals. He is also experienced in alternative dispute resolution and class actions. Mr. Harrison was recently recognized as a pre-eminent figure in both litigation and global product liability law by Legal Media Group/Euromoney in the 2012 Guide to the World’s Leading Litigation Lawyers and the 2012 Guide to the World’s Leading Product Liability Lawyers.
Mr. Harrison is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, the American Bar Association (Section of International Law), The Advocates’ Society, the Toronto Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, ICC Canada, the London Court of International Arbitration and the International Association of Defense Counsel. He is currently the International ADR Chair of the DRI Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. Mr. Harrison is also a member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (U.K.), entitling him to the designation MCI Arb, and was a member of the Corporate Counsel Committee of the American Arbitration Association. Mr. Harrison taught Trial Advocacy at the Queen’s University Faculty of Law 1993-1997.
Prior to being called to the Ontario Bar, Mr. Harrison was a reporter and copyeditor with the Globe and Mail (Canada’s national newspaper), as well as a freelance sports writer and broadcaster for several Canadian media outlets including the Canadian Press and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
