Frank Röhling has been a counsel of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP since May 2008 and is based in the Berlin office. He specialises in European, German and French competition law. Frank has been a German Rechtsanwalt since 2002 and is also qualified to become a French Avocat à la Cour.

Frank’s practice is centred on complex, often multi-jurisdictional, mergers, cartel and behavioural cases where he advises and represents clients in proceedings before the EU, German and other competition authorities. His sector experience includes mergers in the food and beverages, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, chemicals, automotive, construction and real estate sectors.

Frank was born in 1971. He completed his legal education at the universities of Saarbrücken (Germany), Westminster (UK) and Montpellier (France). He earned a Doctor of Laws degree (Dr iur) for his thesis on European merger control law. His national and international competition law experience includes working as a stagiaire at Barennes & Associés law firm in Paris (1998), at the German Federal Cartel Office in Bonn (1999), and at the European Commission’s Directorate General in Brussels (2000). He also spent six months in the legal department at Nestlé’s headquarters in Switzerland (2004) and six months in the Paris office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (2005/06).

Frank is author and co-author of several books and articles on competition law and he frequently lectures on these and related topics. Frank has been with Freshfields since he qualified in 2002. He speaks German, English and French.
