Susan Hutton is a senior partner in Stikeman Elliott’s Competition and International Trade Practice Groups, practicing in the areas of competition law, foreign investment review and international trade. She has provided Competition Act and Investment Canada Act advice in respect of numerous complex mergers and acquisitions, including PotashCorp/BHP Billiton, United/Continental, Wyeth/Pfizer, Alcoa/Alcan, Mittal/Arcelor, CPPIB/O&Y, SBC/AT&T, Sanofi/Aventis, Canfor/Slocan and Lafarge/Blue Circle. She has guided clients through civil and criminal investigations as well as complaints under the Competition Act, and provides compliance advice to numerous clients. She has successfully represented complainants and exporter/importers in dumping and countervailing duty actions. She is recognised by Chambers Global’s: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers, and The Best Lawyers in Canada.

Ms Hutton worked in the field of economic research with the Bank of Canada prior to entering law. She has worked in Bangkok and Singapore, and has advised the government of Vietnam regarding the development of its competition law.

She publishes and speaks frequently in her fields, and is editor-in-chief of the firm’s blog, The Competitor.
