Margaret Wang is a senior associate based in the Hong Kong office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. She is a member of the antitrust, competition and trade practice group. Margaret trained and practised in the firm’s London and Washington DC offices before relocating to Hong Kong in 2006, when the issue of a general competition law for Hong Kong and also for China came to prominence.

Currently Margaret advises on all aspects of competition law in China and Hong Kong, including merger control and behavioural competition advice. She has advised multinational companies in successfully obtaining merger clearance in China, including Philips, Eaton and the Cerberus Group. She regularly advises multinationals on the implications of the Chinese competition law on their commercial arrangements. Margaret also has significant experience under the current sector-specific competition law regime in Hong Kong advising on mergers and disputes.

Educated at the University of Melbourne and King’s College London where she obtained a distinction in an LLM specialising in competition law, Margaret also frequently contributes to publications including the Global Competition Review, the Asia-Pacific Antitrust Review series, the Journal of E-Commerce, Technology and Communications, and the Getting the Deal Through series. Margaret features as a leading individual by Chambers Asia 2011 (competition and antitrust).
