Alex is a partner based in the London antitrust, competition and trade practice group, specialising in EC and UK competition law. His practice includes merger control, State aid law and competition enforcement actions brought by regulators.
Alex’s experience includes:
acting for PepsiCo on obtaining EC merger clearances for PepsiCo’s separate acquisitions of its anchor bottlers, The Pepsi Bottling Group, Inc. and PepsiAmericas, Inc.;
obtaining EC merger clearance for BAE Systems on its joint venture with VT Group to consolidate the UK naval shipyards;
advising Walkers Snacks, a division of PepsiCo, on the UK Office of Fair Trading’s abuse of dominance enquiry into Walkers’ rebate schemes and other trading terms, which resulted in a case closure notice;
acting for the UK Department of Health on the outsourcing of the NHS Logistics Authority supply chain and the NHS consumables procurement division, and the award of the second wave of independent sector treatment centre contracts;
acting for Sara Lee in obtaining EC merger clearance for the sale of its European meats business to Smithfield Foods and Oaktree Capital; and
acting for Terra Firma on its public bid for East Surrey Holdings plc and its subsequent sale of Sutton and East Surrey Water and acquisition of British Gas Connections.
In 2008-2009, Alex spent 18 months in our Beijing office as co-head of our China ACT group, leading the firm’s response to the introduction of the Anti-Monopoly Law in China.
Alex speaks English and French. He has an LLB from the University of Bristol.
