Elizabeth Morony is a partner at Clifford Chance LLP in London and leads their antitrust litigation group. She represents companies in antitrust litigation in the UK and European courts and investigations, in particular cartel investigations by the European Commission and the UK Office of Fair Trading (OFT). She represents companies in dawn raids, and advises on internal investigations and leniency applications. She acts for both applicants and respondents in judicial review proceedings. Recent experience includes defending Siemens in a claim by National Grid for damages arising from the gas insulated switchgear cartel in the English High Court (National Grid v ABB and others); defending Morgan Crucible in a claim for damages arising from the electrical and mechanical carbon and graphite products cartel in the Competition Appeal Tribunal (Emerson and others v Morgan Crucible and others); representing a defendant in a claim by Safeway against former directors and employees (Safeway v Simon Twigger and others); representing Barclays in its appeal to the Competition Appeal Tribunal against the Competition Commission's decision on payment protection insurance (PPI) (Barclays Bank Plc v Competition Commission); representing the immunity applicant in the OFT's investigation into loans to professional services firms; and representing a Japanese company in the cross-border civil and criminal antitrust investigations conducted by the European Commission and the UK's Office of Fair Trading in relation to the marine hose cartel. She is listed in band 1 of Chambers Europe 2010 for contentious competition law.
