Alvaro Pliego Selie is an associate in the Antitrust, Competition and Trade practice group of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer Amsterdam. Alvaro specialises in European and Dutch general and sector-specific competition law. Before joining Freshfields in March 2011, Alvaro worked for over five years as a member of the legal department of the Netherlands competition authority (NMa). During his time at the NMa he was responsible for handling cases involving behavioural matters, transactions and sector-specific regulation (particularly energy and transport infrastructures). His work in these fields included acting as chair in hearings and litigating before the Dutch courts. He has a Law Degree and an LL.M. in International and European Law from the University of Amsterdam.
