Azamat Kuatbekov is a partner in the Almaty office of Baker & McKenzie. He specialises in dispute resolutions and natural resources. He has a wide experience in advising international oil and gas companies on the requirements of the Kazakhstani oil and gas legislation and in connection with the acquisition of exploration or production rights in Kazakhstan, or both. Azamat’s practice incorporates representation foreign and domestic clients in court proceedings against various state agencies and private parties. Mr Kuatbekov has written numerous articles on oil and gas, corporate law, bankruptcy and litigation in Kazakhstan. He is member of the Kazakhstan Petroleum Lawyers’ Association. Mr Kuatbekov graduated (with honours) from the Karaganda State University, Kazakhstan in 1996 and received his LLM degree from Indiana University, USA in 1997. He is fluent in English, Kazakh and Russian.
