Gerry is a leader in Bird & Bird’s International Life Sciences Group and is regularly named as a leading IP lawyer in the life sciences sector. He specialises in contentious IP work and in commercial and regulatory matters for clients in the sector. He obtained a PhD in physiology before qualifying as a lawyer and has advised and represented numerous clients in the life sciences sector, from start-ups to multinationals. He is the author of numerous articles and is co-author of ‘Patents on Biotechnological Inventions: The EC Directive’ (Sweet & Maxwell, 2002), of a chapter on biotechnology patents in “Concise European Patent Law” (Kluwer Law International, 2008) and of “Competition Law and Intellectual Property Strategy in the Pharmaceuticals Sector” (Pharmaventures/Bird & Bird, 2008). Gerry is a member of various sector and patent strategy committees.
