Matthias W. Stecher is Partner at BEITEN BURKHARDT’s Munich office and Head of the Prac-tice Group IP / IT / Media. His area of activity comprises Intellectual Property, Unfair Competition Law and international Commercial Law as well as the industry sectors automotive, energy and logistics.
Stecher has extensive litigation experience, in particular in connection with Intellectual Property Rights (patents, designs, trademarks) and technical products. Another core area of his work is drafting and negotiating contracts in both German and English, in particular regarding licenses, R&D cooperations and IP driven transactions.
Stecher studied at the University of Tübingen and New York University and is also admitted as Attorney-at-Law in New York. In 1991, he spent one year working at the Italian law firm Brosio Casati e Associati. He is fluent in English, Italian and French.

- Patent litigiation matters for a number of large companies, including a leading US producer of gear manufacturing machines for the automotive industry, a leading German manufacturer of industrial doors, a worldwide active automotive supplier, a Swiss manufacturer of printing plants, an Italian manufacturer of car accessories
- Infringement matters in the field of Design (demolition machinery, bath faucets, home decoration products, ceramic vase)
- Word leading manufacturer of silicon wafers for the photovoltaic industry – several litigation matters relating to breaches of supply agreements
- Leading certification service provider – numerous litigation matters relating to the grant of certification marks, the enticement away of employees and misleading advertisement
- Automotive supplier – structuring and negotiating license and purchase agreements relating to a portfolio of IP rights and know how in the field of materials for the automotive industry, including a Due Diligence regarding this portfolio on behalf of a private equity fund
- Assisting the Italian purchaser in the acquisition of the assets from the insolvency of a well-known porcelain manufacturer, including the brands “Rosenthal”, “Thomas” und “Hutschenreuther” as well as further IP rights
