Amitabh is a Partner with the firm. He was an Indian Revenue Service Officer, and retired as Commissioner of Income Tax in the year 2010.
In an illustrious career of 31 years, he has handled diverse assignments in the sphere of Regulation, Public Finance and Policy. He has served as the first Director General of the Competition Commission of India from 2004 to 2009. He was involved in the Policy and Regulatory Framework set up in the initial years of the Competition Authority. He further assisted the Government in drafting the Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2007. He is currently assisting the Government in drafting a National Competition Policy and also amendments to the Competition Act.
Amitabh was also responsible for drafting nine implementing regulations, besides making a significant contribution to the Competition Advocacy initiative of the authority.
He also has significant consulting experience with the African Development Bank, The World Bank, UNDP and Department for International Development (UK) in strategic policy areas. He has also served on the Board of several public sector undertakings.
Amitabh has been involved in all matters handled by the firm involving competition law and regularly appears before the Commission.
