Alberto Batini was born on 27th June 1967 at Livorno (Italy). He graduated at the University of Pisa - Law School - 1990 (magna cum laude - Thesis: "The European Economic Interest Group: an application in the Shipping Industry"). Alberto has been former assistant solicitor with Sinclair Roche & Temperley, London in 1991/1992 and, by the end of the same year, moved as assistant claims handler at Standard Steamship Owners P&I Club, Charles Taylor & Co., London for about six months.

Later Alberto obtained the 18th Maritime Law Degree at the University of Southampton - Faculty of Law - Institute of Shipping Law in 1992/1993

Alberto is a Senior Partner with the Italian law firm BB & Partners (Batini Traverso & Associati, formerly Batini & Associati) since 1993. The firm is specialised in Maritime and Corporate Law with offices in Livorno, Genoa, Ravenna, Venice, La Spezia, Milan and Cagliari. Alberto is registered at the Professional Bar of Milan and is admitted to advocate at the Supreme Court in Italy.

Alberto has a Post graduate Doctorate (PHD) in Shipping and Transport Law obtained at the University of Trieste from 1995 (Monography assigned : "The law of Tug and Tow - Public and Private Law Profiles"). He then was appointed Vice-President of the Ibero-American Institute of Maritime Law (IIDM) - Italian Section since 1998

Alberto wrote several Editorial Articles in Shipping and Transport Law and he is regular speaker at the major international shipping conferences and seminars worldwide.

Alberto is a permanent Member of the Steering Committee of the Italian Association of Maritime Law (IAMA) and active member of the Italian Working Group for Maritime Liens and Mortgages and Arrest of Ships at the CMI Centenary Conference held in Antwerp in June 1997 and at the CMI Plenary Session Conference held in Singapore in 2000 and in Vancouver in 2004. His areas of practice are: Ship Arrest, Admiralty Law and Marine Insurance Law
