Andrea Barenghi graduated (magna cum laude) from the University of Rome (La Sapienza) in 1990, obtained a JSD in 1996 and was Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute of Fiesole in 1997/1998. He was visiting scholar at Harvard Law School (1999), at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität of Heidelberg (he is a regular visitor), and at the Université Panthéon-Assas of Paris (1992/1993).
He is a professor of civil and commercial law at the Law School of the University of Molise.
Andrea specialises in litigation and arbitration, both domestic and international. He is admitted to appear before the higher courts in Italy, including the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Cassation and the Council of State.
He joined Studio Barenghi following graduation in 1990. Between 2000 and 2002 he was of counsel to Allen & Overy’s Italian practice and then in September 2005 a co-founder of Barenghi & Paton.
Andrea has acted for major Italian and international corporate and private clients in large and complex litigation and arbitration. He has also been appointed a member of arbitration panels in a number of arbitrations. Andrea Barenghi is regularly appointed in Supreme Court cases, including cases for major multinational corporations. Among many other cases, he has recently assisted a multinational oil Company in a dispute against an environmental Association; a U.S. multinational Bank against an Italian Public body in one of the largest disputes ever on liability of financial Consultants.
He has published several legal commentaries on contract law and many articles on arbitration and ADR, software protection, contracts, tort, consumer protection, the right to publicity and other topics, often cited in Italian and foreign legal scholarship.
He is fluent in English and French, and corresponds in German.
