Sunny Sodhi practises in Torys’ Corporate and Capital Markets Practice and is a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions Practice. Sunny’s practice encompasses a broad range of corporate and commercial law, including mergers and acquisitions for both public and private companies, corporate finance, corporate governance and restructurings. Sunny’s mergers and acquisitions practice includes advising public and private companies, acting as either acquirors or targets, and their boards of directors in domestic and cross-border M&A, divestitures, and friendly and hostile takeovers.
Sunny has been involved in representing Scotiabank in its proposed C$2.3 billion cash-and-share offer to acquire control of DundeeWealth; The Toronto-Dominion Bank on Canadian aspects of its acquisition of Chrysler Financial for approximately US$6.3 billion; and numerous companies on the incorporation of banks, insurance companies and trust companies, and the establishment of branches of foreign insurance companies in Canada under Canadian financial institutions regulatory requirements. He has been recognized as a leading lawyer in banking by Legal Media Group/Euromoney’s IFLR1000.
Sunny is also focused on the growing volume of business, both inbound and outbound, between India and Canada and acts as Managing Director for the firm’s India Group. He has advised Indian and Canadian companies on establishing and expanding operations, including joint ventures, and on new opportunities in both countries.
