Mr. James is a co-leader of Pillsbury’s Energy industry team and a member of the firm’s governing board. His energy practice spans project development, M&A and joint ventures, construction and licensing matters in the U.S., Canada, Asia and South America. His experience extends to oil and gas production, LNG, pipelines, oil refining, gasification, alternative fuels, power generation, chemicals, mining, manufacturing and marketing matters. Mr. James’ recent matters include the expansion of a landmark oil production venture in Kazakhstan and the acquisition of an interest in a Peruvian LNG liquefaction plant and gas pipeline project.

He received his J.D. from Yale Law School and his A.B. from Stanford University. He is a member of the American Bar Association (including its Business Law Section and Forum on the Construction Industry); the Bar Association of San Francisco; the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN); the State Bar of California (including its Public-Private Infrastructure, Real Estate and Business Law Sections); as an Advisory Board Member, Institute for International and Comparative Law (IICL), and a member of the Center for American and International Law (CAIL), Texas.
