MR. MARCO ANTONIO PALACIOS L., born 1968; Guatemala. EDUCATION: San Carlos University (Attorney and Notary Public). Conducted studies in International Trade Law in Switzerland; in Intellectual Property in Uruguay and the USA. Served as diplomat (First Secretary, Guatemala’s Permanent Mission before the U.N. in New York), as Trade Deputy Director for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and as member to the Guatemala’s City Council. Lecturer to several events related to International Trade Relations, Economic Integration Law and Intellectual Property, among the WIPO, USPTO, the UNDP, the Central American Economic Integration Secretariat (SIECA), University of Los Andes, Venezuela and the Franklin Pierce Law Center. Member to drafting committees installed for the elaboration and discussion of the current Intellectual Property legislation and author of several works on Intellectual Property. Served for nine years as Senior consultant on Intellectual Property for a regional trade capacity building project executed by SIECA and sponsored by USAID. Vice-Chairperson-Central America, Interamerican Institute for Copyright (IIDA). He was awarded AMCHAM’S Intellectual Property Award in 2006.
