Born in 1973, Jan Zrzavecký graduated from the Law Faculty of Charles University Master’s degree in 1998, doctorate in 2000) and the University of Economics in Prague (Master’s degree in 1997, Ph.D. in 2004). In 1995 he completed a semester-long study program at Thames Valley University in London. He became a law clerk in 1998 and has been an attorney since 2001.
Prior to the founding of HZ (2008) Jan Zrzavecký worked for nearly ten years in the leading Czech law firm of Kocián Šolc Balaštík, where he took care of many important transactions in cooperation with other experienced attorneys. These included several of the largest domestic privatization projects, extensive restructurings, numerous mergers, acquisitions, spin-offs, takeovers of assets, squeeze-outs and takeover bids. Jan Zrzavecký is one of few Czech lawyers possessing great experience in cross-border mergers and the founding of European companies, including the process of negotiating the involvement of employees. In addition to mergers and acquisitions Jan Zrzavecký specializes in corporate law, in which he gained a great deal of experience at his previous position where he took advantage of the opportunity of working closely with prof. Dedic. Another important specializations of Jan Zrzavecký are pharmaceutical law and public tender law.
For a number of years Jan Zrzavecký was a member of the Government Legislative Council Commission for Commercial Law. As part of his doctoral studies he led a commercial law seminar at the University of Economics. He is the co-author of several articles in the area of commercial law in professional magazines (Právní rozhledy, Právní rádce, Obchodní právo, Tributum, Danová a hospodárská kartotéka) and is the author of the commentary on amendments to the Commercial Code (Grada Publishing, 2000). Jan Zrzavecký has long been involved in providing legal services to members of the RWE Group and other Czech and international businesses. At HZ, he is a partner responsible for company law, public contracts and pharmaceutical law. He provides legal services in Czech, English and German.
