Benita Yu is a partner at Slaughter and May in Hong Kong. She is qualified in Hong Kong and English law. She read law at Oxford University and worked with another major city law firm in London for six years before joining Slaughter and May.
Benita has substantial experience in corporate finance transactions, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and securities transactions, including cross-border listings and share offerings by PRC state-owned enterprises. She also advises on banking and international debt securities transactions.
Benita has significant experience of a range of corporate transactions, including advising Merrill Lynch as financial adviser to Little Sheep Group Limited in the recommended general offer by Yum! Brands, Inc., Zhengzhou China Resources Gas Co., Ltd. in its privatisation by China Resources Gas Group Limited, the restructuring of the PRC telecommunications industry (involving China Unicom Ltd., China Telecom Corporation Ltd. and China Netcom Group Corporation (Hong Kong) Limited with an aggregate value of over US$70 billion), BBVA’s strategic investments in China CITIC Bank and China International Financial Holdings, the voluntary takeover and the delisting of Superdata Software Holdings by Profit Eagle, and advising a consortium of strategic investors in relation to their pre-IPO investment in one of the largest PRC state-owned national commercial banks. In addition, she has advised on a number of ground-breaking capital markets transactions, including advising on the IPOs of PRADA, Alibaba.com, New China Life Insurance Company Ltd., Metallurgical Corporation of China Ltd. (MCC), Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (CHALCO), Sinopec and China Telecom and has a wealth of experience of bringing PRC corporates to market.
Benita is a member of the Takeovers and Mergers Panel, a member of the Takeovers Appeal Committee in Hong Kong and a member of the Standing Committee on Company Law Reform of the HKSAR Government.
