Mr. M. Husseyn Umar, is a partner of the law firm ALI BUDIARDJO, NUGROHO, REKSODIPUTRO since 1989. A University of Indonesia law graduate, and had maritime law training in USA, UK and Germany, he has held various positions at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, in particular at the Directorate General of Sea Communications. He was then appointed as Transport and Communications Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in the Netherlands.

He was President Director of PT PANN Ship Financing Corporation and then President Director of PT PELNI National Shipping Line. After that he served as a member of the experts staff of the Minister of Transport and Communications, until he was appointed as the Sectoral Support Adviser in shipping, ports, multi-modal transport and maritime legislation at the Permanent Secretariat of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva.

Mr. Umar is Vice Chairman of the Governing Board of BANI Arbitration Centre, Jakarta, Indonesia and is also listed as arbitrator of that body. He has acted in arbitration cases, as arbitrator, either in ad hoc arbitrations or in institutional arbitrations. He handled various dispute cases, such as dispute on finance, corporate, banking, shipping and construction. He is also member of the Panels of Conciliations and Arbitrations of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington D.C.

Within the law firm, he handles matters relating to general shipping, ship finance, marine insurance and P & I matters, ports and harbours, salvage and collision and marine pollution.
