Gordan Stanković

Prof. Gordan Stanković studied law at the University of Rijeka Faculty of Law. He obtained LL.M. degrees from the law faculties of Split, Croatia and Southampton, UK, and a Ph.D. degree from the law faculty of Split. He was a Fulbright visiting scholar at the Tulane Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana, US. He is the author of ‘Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims’, and ‘Maritime Liens and Mortgages’, co-author of a chapter on Croatia in the Kluwer’s Encyclopaedia of Laws – Transport Law, and a co-editor of ‘Maritime Environmental Law: A Handbook of Selected Laws and Regulations’. He is a partner and head of the Shipping and Admiralty Department at Vukić & Partners. He has extensive experience in various fields of shipping law, including shipbuilding and ship finance. On two occasions (2000 and 2006-2007) he acted as legal consultant to the Government of Croatia on restructuring of the Croatian shipbuilding industry. He teaches maritime law at the Maritime Faculty of Rijeka and regularly appears as guest teacher at the Faculties of Law in Rijeka, Zagreb and Split. He has been involved in drafting of the Croatian Maritime Code as a member of the working group on registration of ships, liens and mortgages, as well as the working group on ship arrest.
