Andrew G. Paton is one of only several common lawyers to have gained full admission to practice in Italy, where he has built up strong cross-border commercial transaction and arbitration practices over more than 20 years. He obtained a law degree from the University of Sydney, Australia where he practiced for several years before moving to Italy to take up studies in Italian law.
Andrew has worked on a wide range of domestic and international commercial transactions, including distribution, agency, licensing, outsourcing, joint venture and other forms of collaboration between businesses from a variety of different legal cultures. He has led teams of lawyers on major projects for international information technology companies servicing the automated fare collection, automobile and medical services industries, and on corporate and commercial transactions in these and other sectors.
He has acted as counsel on several large international commercial arbitrations under the rules of the ICC. More recently, he has also been appointed arbitrator on panels and as sole arbitrator in several arbitrations with seat in Italy pursuant to the regulations of the Milan Arbitration Chamber.
He publishes regularly in international law journals on aspects of Italian law in his areas of specialization.
