Founding and Managing Partner of the Italian offices of Bird & Bird, Massimiliano Mostardini also heads up the IP practice in Italy and is Co-Head of the firm’s International Life Sciences Group. Massimiliano and his team recently won, for the second consecutive year, the titles of “Italian Contentious Law Firm of the Year” at the 2011 Managing IP Awards and “Italian IP Law Firm of the Year” at the 2011 TopLegal Awards.

Massimiliano has practiced intellectual property law in Milan since 1990 and is considered a leading intellectual property lawyer both in Italy and at an international level.

Massimiliano has extensive experience in advising leading Italian and international companies in both contentious and non-contentious matters. He has particular expertise in the life sciences sector.

Massimiliano regularly assists clients in domestic and pan-European litigation in IP and life science matters, particularly relating to patents, trademarks, copyright and unfair competition law matters, including regulatory aspects; assisting various multinational company groups in licensing, research and development of MTA and clinical trials contracts; advising leading companies on inventions performed at the universities and related rights; and advising national and international companies in transfer of technologies.

Massimiliano is a lecturer at the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan and teaches Intellectual Property Law. He is the author of several publications concerning the intellectual property field, product liability, license agreements and domain names. He is often invited to speak at national and international conferences in the intellectual property, life sciences, e-commerce, IT, telecommunications and media sectors.
