Donald Dinnie is a litigation and disputes resolution lawyer.
He specialises in insurance litigation and dispute resolution, medical law and medical malpractice, construction and personal injury litigation, professional indemnity litigation, product liability and recall and related Adverting Standards Authority disputes.
He regularly advises the major short-term insurers in South Africa and most of the major private hospital networks. He also advises Lloyds and Lloyds syndicates. His Insurance Law specialisation includes regulatory work and complex litigation with respect to subrogated defences and recoveries and defence work for insurers regarding policy response, interpretation and wording.
He frequently publishes and lectures on all aspects of insurance and medical law. He is, amongst others, listed in Chambers Global 2010, and the Legal 500 2010: Europe, Middle East and Africa with respect to dispute resolution, Expert Guides, Best Lawyers 2010 for insurance.
Donald obtained his BA LLB and HDip Company Law from the University of the Witwatersrand; and CML from Unisa/UP. He is a member of and publications officer of the Insurance Committee, and member of the Dispute Resolution Committee of the International Bar Association as well as a member of the Law Societies of the Northern Provinces, KwaZulu-Natal, and Cape Province. He is a senior director in the Sandton office heading up the General and Insurance Litigation Team. He is a member of the South African practice’s Supervisory Board.
