Leonel Pereznieto is a partner of Creel, García-Cuéllar, Aiza y Enriquez and heads the firm’s insurance and reinsurance group.
Leonel’s practice brings together a unique insight into Mexican insurance and reinsurance laws and a global outlook driven by a demanding international clientele. His broad expertise in direct insurance cuts through contentious, transactional and regulatory aspects, with a particular emphasis on creating structures for innovative product lines and business arrangements for the Mexican market. On the reinsurance front, he represents reinsurers in connection with contentious and contract issues in Mexico and in other Latin American countries as well as global reinsurance brokers on their regional business.
Leonel serves as membership Secretary of the Insurance Committee of the International Bar Association. He authors the chapter on Mexico in the “Insurance & Reinsurance” Getting the Deal Through publication, and is regular speaker at conferences and contributor to publications on insurance and reinsurance.
Leonel was admitted to practice in Mexico in 1998 after having studied his law degree at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. In 2001 he was admitted to practice by the Bar of the State of New York. In 1999 Leonel received an LL.M. degree from University College London, where he specialized in general insurance, marine insurance and shipping law. In 2000 he received an LL.M. degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
