Alex is head of the Arthur Cox projects & energy group, the largest projects and energy practice in Ireland. He has a broad based infrastructure and utilities practice, with particular expertise in the energy sector. Alex has more than fifteen years energy regulatory, transactional and major projects experience in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Australia and has been centrally involved in the liberalisation of the energy markets in each jurisdiction. He has extensive experience acting for government, regulators, financiers, market participants and customers in Ireland and internationally, and combines broad industry expertise with a strong background in energy regulation and reform. Prior to joining Arthur Cox, Alex spent six years in the projects group of a leading Australian law firm.

Alex has advised in relation to most of the major energy sector developments in Ireland and Northern Ireland over the past eight years. His practice includes conventional and renewable power projects; energy market reform; energy sector regulation; wholesale and retail gas and electricity trading; PPP; upstream and downstream gas; corporatisation & privatisation; mergers & acquisitions; and project finance.

Alex is admitted as a solicitor in Ireland and Northern Ireland, a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand (not practising) and a legal practitioner in New South Wales (not practising). Alex is the sole legal representative on the Minister for Energy’s Renewable Energy Development Group and on the Council of the Marine Renewables Industry Association. He is also a member of the Energy Law Group, the association of leading energy lawyers from independent law firms in Europe.
