Philipp Cotta

Philipp Cotta (46) is a partner in the Munich office of BEITEN BURKHARDT. He heads the German antitrust practice and advises clients on German and EU merger control, cartel and other competition matters. He started his career at Freshfields (now Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer) in Frankfurt, London and Berlin (1995-1999). Between 1999 and 2001 he worked as European Counsel for the automotive supplier Delphi Corporation in Paris. Cotta studied law at LMU Munich and obtained an LL.M.-degree at London School of Economics and Political Science (London University).

Recent assignments include:

  • Advised Akzo Nobel BV on German and international merger control proceedings in connection with the acquisition of the business of LII Europe GmbH;
  • Advised the Turkish media group Dogan Yayin Holding A.S. on the proposed acquisition of ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG;
  • Advised Dell Inc. on German merger control proceedings in connection with the acquisition of Alienware Corporation and Perot Systems Corporation;
  • Advised TÜV SÜD AG on EU merger control proceedings in connection with a car inspection joint venture in Turkey;
  • Advised adidas AG on merger control proceedings in the European Union, Russia and the Ukraine in connection with the acquisition of Reebok International Inc.;
  • Advised adidas AG on EU merger control proceedings in connection with the sale of the worldwide Salomon-business to Amer Sports Corporation;
  • Advising and representing a LPG-supplier in connection with cartel proceedings at the Federal Cartel Office and the Court of Appeals in Düsseldorf;
  • Advised and represented a manufacturer of fire engines in connection with cartel proceedings at the Federal Cartel Office and follow-on damage claims;
  • Advised and represented a cement producer in connection with cartel proceedings at the Federal Cartel Office;
  • Advised a German automotive supplier in connection with cartel investigations by the European Commission.
