Paul Kanefsky is a partner at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP in New York and is a member of the Firm’s Insurance & Reinsurance Department. Paul’s focus is reinsurance law and practice in all of its aspects. He represents insurance and reinsurance industry clients in the arbitration, litigation and mediation of reinsurance and insurance disputes and in connection with run-offs, commutations, insolvencies and the preparation and negotiation of reinsurance agreements and commutation agreements. Paul was one of the leaders of the Firm’s team that successfully handled a series of disputes concerning the reinsurance of workers compensation carve-out business, which included one of the largest reinsurance arbitrations ever held. Paul also played a major role in negotiating and drafting many multiparty commutations and settlements to resolve related disputes involving the London Personal Accident market.
Paul also represents insurance and reinsurance companies and other financial institutions and commercial entities in the insurance and reinsurance aspects of mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, and in the preparation and negotiation of trust agreements to secure reinsurance obligations. Paul has served as an expert on U.S. law in insurance and reinsuance proceedings in London and Bermuda. He is the U.S. editor of Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge’s quarterly Insurance and Reinsurance Review and writes and speaks on reinsurance topics.
