María Beatriz Burghetto is counsel in the Arbitration and ADR department of Hughes Hubbard’s Paris office. She is fluent in Spanish, English and French and has acted as counsel in arbitrations in all three languages. She has law degrees from the University of Buenos Aires and London (LLM) and is admitted as an attorney in Argentina and France.
María Beatriz has served as counsel in ICC and other types of international arbitrations representing Latin American and European parties in the energy, mining and pharmaceutical industries. She has also provided general advice on international arbitration, including enforcement of arbitral awards.
Prior to joining Hughes Hubbard, María Beatriz worked at the Secretariat of the ICC’s
International Court of Arbitration (Latin American/ Spanish team), handling over 100 arbitral proceedings at various stages. She has also been counsel to Latin American states in a cross-border securities fraud litigation and in a large number of lawsuits concerning privatized public utilities. She has also given advice to a range of companies in contractual and company law matters.
María Beatriz regularly lectures and publishes articles on arbitration. In particular, she has spoken at conferences on Argentinean arbitration and investment law. She is a member of the ICC Latin American Arbitration Group and of the French Arbitration Association.
