Wim Vandenberghe has extensive experience in energy, competition and EU general law. Mr. Vandenberghe has advised on the full range of energy law matters, including EU and Belgian regulatory and compliance counselling (liberalisation legislation; distribution & transmission; interconnectors; TPA, unbundling, permits & approvals, retail, security of supply, NRAs, etc.), fossil fuels and renewable energy contracts and (sustainable) energy projects as well as climate change and emissions trading matters. He has also advised extensively on competition law issues in the energy sector.
Mr. Vandenberghe also has significant experience in both Belgian and EU competition law. He has advised international and national clients on a full array of antitrust-related issues, ranging from anti-competitive agreements (including cartels) and merger control to state aid and abuse of dominant position. Mr. Vandenberghe also advises clients on the structuring of business models which comply with competition law.
Mr. Vandenberghe also provides comprehensive, in-depth guidance on EU general law, with particular emphasis on internal market law (free movement).
He has conducted cases before the European Commission, the European Court of Justice, Belgian courts and the Belgian competition authority as well as before the Belgian federal and regional energy sector regulators.
Mr. Vandenberghe has recently been selected for inclusion in Best Lawyer in Belgium 2010 for his work in energy-law. He teaches EU gas and electricity law at the Energy and Environmental LLM program of the Law Faculty, K.U.Leuven. Mr. Vandenberghe has been a member of the Brussels Bar since 2004 and is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Belgian law journal Milieu- en Energierecht [Environmental and Energy Law].
Prior to joining Dechert, Mr. Vandenberghe worked in the Brussels office of a large international law firm. He is fluent in English, Dutch and French.
